The fine print
- What this compares. Your current average power bill of $156 a month against your solar payment of $108.00 a month, over 25 years. Utility escalated at 7.5% per year, solar at 2.99% per year.
- Still connected to the grid. You are still connected to the utility grid and would be expected to pay a small fixed monthly rate, considered the standard connection fee.
- Duquesne Light rates are moving. Duquesne Light carries the highest residential electricity rate of any major Pennsylvania utility, roughly 23 cents per kWh in early 2026. Its December 2025 supply reset moved the residential Price to Compare from 12.43 cents to 13.75 cents per kWh, a 10.6 percent jump and the largest of any major utility in the state on that reset. A 2024 settlement had already lifted a typical 600 kWh bill from $130.67 to $135.88, and the pause on new base rate filings ran out in March 2026. Past increases do not guarantee future ones.
